A committed with other quality options

state of florida is looking to add talent from the class of 2023. We review their recruiting committees in mid-July. Today we take a look at their wants and needs at defensive back.

Want to: 2-3 | Need: 2-3 | Have: 1

Engaged: state of florida currently has one defensive back committed to them in the 2023 recruiting class in the form of Meridian (Miss.) three-star defensive back Quindarrius Jones. He signed up with the Seminoles after securing an offer at FSU’s elite camp in early June where he trained ahead of mike norvel and its staff. The long defender is expected to be back on FSU’s campus for its July 30 event.

Targets: Top of the defensive back scouting chart starts with American Heritage (Fla.) Top247 defensive back Damari Brown. He recently told 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins that he plans to use one of his three remaining official visits to FSU during the football season. Alabama, Clemson and miami are all concerned.

Jacksonville (Florida) Raines four-star defensive back Kenton Kirkland seems like the most realistic target for the Seminoles at this position. He is also expected to return to Tallahassee for the Seminole Showcase on July 30. A commitment from Kirkland could occur during the month of August. His 247Sports crystal ball reads 100% in favor of the Seminoles.

Pensacola Catholic (Florida) three stars Jabril Rawls has an FSU bid under its belt and recently named the ‘Noles its leader. He will be back on the 30th and it will be interesting to see what happens after his visit to campus. I think he’s maybe a level below a prospect like Brown or Kirkland, but I could see FSU looking to take him in that class.

Kankakee (Illinois) four-star cornerback Hill of Jyaire is a more recent offer for FSU but he told Noles247 he plans to head to Tallahassee as soon as possible. Michigan leads on the 247Sports crystal ball for Hill.

What is the next?: The FSU may be looking to complete the Kirkland deal after hosting him for what is likely his last visit before he makes a decision. After that, they’ll likely shoot for Brown. If that doesn’t work I might see them pivot to other options like Dunbar (Florida) four star Shawn RussianLake Wales (Florida) three stars Jaremiah AnglinEdna Karr (La.) three stars ryan robinsonor Montgomery Catholic Prep (Alabama) LJ Green.

There is always a chance that new targets will emerge as Norvell staff are able to hit the road in the upcoming football season.
