Arrest made in death of Queens delivery man: NYPD

A 51-year-old man has been charged in the death of a beloved delivery man in Queens, NYPD officials said.

Authorities said Glenn Hirsch was arrested on Wednesday and charged with murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of 45-year-old Zhiwen Yan.

Yan was hit and killed by a stray bullet around 9:30 p.m. on April 30 while delivering food in Forest Hills.

Authorities said the bullet was fired near the intersection of 108th Street and 67th Drive, an area where residents said crime rarely occurs.

“It’s kind of a surprise. You don’t really hear that kind of stuff in this neighborhood, so yeah, it’s a complete shock,” James Park told NY1 last month.

Others described Yan as a well-known hard worker in the neighborhood.

“Every time you passed he would say, ‘Hello, my friend.’ Snow, rain, hurricane – he was delivering. He was the nicest guy. The hardest working guy on the block,” resident Philip Jacoby said shortly after Yan’s death.

Police said Yan was not the intended target of the shooting.

In a translated statement provided by his attorney, Yan’s wife, Eva, said she and the community were “relieved that someone has been arrested.”

“We are grateful to the NYPD and have full confidence that the Queens District Attorney will bring justice to Zhiwen Yan, a loving and kind husband, father, son, friend and community member,” she said. declared.
