Bernard Thomas Kobily of Weirton died on Wednesday June 15, 2022. He was 85 years old.

Bernard was born September 26, 1936 in Weirton, WV, one of six children born to Stephen and Rose Nowicki Kobily.

Bernie went to Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School, Weir High School, and went to WVU for five semesters.

On October 1, 1960, Bernie married Susanna Pauchnik. Bernie worked at Weirton Steel, where he retired from the Hot Mill after 31 years, and Susanna worked as a deli clerk at the international market.

After retirement, they moved to Deltona, Florida for 30 years, where they were very active in their parish, Our Lady of the Lakes Roman Catholic Church. Bernie was a Eucharistic Minister, was active in the Catholic Cursillo, and Christ Renewing His Parish, and was the secretary and assistant grand knight of the 6584 Knights of Columbus.

Prior to leaving for Florida, Bernie was active with the Madonna and Sacred Heart of Mary Boosters. He coached the SHM Falcons girls and boys. He has also served on the board of directors of the sports commission and the school commission of the Sacred Heart of Mary.

In his spare time he enjoyed watching the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.

Bernie will be best remembered for his great sense of humor and helping those in need.

Bernie was a member of the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and a life member of Knights of Columbus 6584.

Besides his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his 62-year-old wife Susanna on January 11, 2022; his brother, Edward and his sister, Loretta Kobily.

He will be fondly remembered by his brothers, Stephen and Mary Kobily, Raymond and Marcia Kobily; his sister, Laverne Sutak; his brother-in-law, Jim and Linda Pauchnik, Pete and Betty Fabian; and his good friend, George Gonzales of Deltona FL; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV from 5-7 p.m.

Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 200 Preston Ave. Weirton, WV Fr. Tony Thurston will preside. Interment will follow at the mausoleum in Saint Paul Cemetery.
