CCTV played at the rape trial of a former NRL player | The Grenfell Disc

A woman who was allegedly raped by former NRL player Tristan Sailor cuddled, kissed and laughed with the man in the hours before CCTV starred in court shows.

Tristan Sailor is accused of having sex with the 24-year-old when she was either unconscious or too drunk to consent after a night out with friends in October 2020.

Sailor, now 23, has pleaded not guilty to two rape charges and maintains the sex was consensual.

In four hours of CCTV footage broadcast over several days, the jury watched as the woman had bottomless margaritas and tacos with a friend at the Carbon Mexican Woodfire in Bondi, before meeting a group of Sailor crewmates for drinks in another place in Bondi.

At different times throughout the evening, footage shows Sailor and her alleged victim hugging, kissing and laughing together.

At around 8:15 p.m., the couple left the Beach Road Hotel, catching an Uber to the alleged victim’s apartment in Wolli Creek with two other people.

An hour and a half after the men arrived, Sailor was captured leaving the building with his friend on CCTV, wearing his socks and shoes.

What happened during those 90 minutes is a central question for the jury.

The Crown says the woman remembers taking two sips of her drink and nothing else before waking up the next morning naked and bleeding in urine-stained sheets.

However, Sailor’s attorney, Richard Pontello, told the jury that the woman was conscious and consenting the whole time the couple had sex – although she doesn’t remember it.

The trial will continue next week.
