Chauncey Jerome Stickle III, 78, died July 11, 2022. The Savannah native was born January 8, 1944, to Chauncey and Katharine Hohenstein Stickle.
CJ is a graduate of the Sacred Heart and Benedictine of Savannah. He attended the University of Miami and Dekalb Junior College. He held various operating positions with Standard Oil of Kentucky (Chevron) between 1966 and 1974, then spent 19 years working as a foreman controller for the Georgia Ports Authority. CJ started and operated Stickle’s Courier Service from 1995 to 2013.
CJ served 20 years in the Georgia National Guard and retired as a Staff Sgt. He has been active in many organizations, such as: Knights of Columbus Council 5588, St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee and Warrant Officer Staff, Knights of Columbus 631, Hibernian Society, Irish Heritage and Catholic Veterans. He enjoyed football and coached Little League for several years, as well as fishing and shrimping from his riverside home in Harris Neck, Georgia.
CJ met Linda Rae Elliott in Atlanta in September 1966 and married her in March 1967 at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Decatur, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and their two children, Katharine Howard and Sean Patrick Stickle (Jenny); their grandchildren, Trent, Hannah, Abby and Nathan Stickle, and Ashleigh and Brianna Howard.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The memorial mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 in Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral with interment in Bonaventure Cemetery.
