The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect worked for the coaching staff on June 1, the first day of Dabo Swinney High School Camps and Betancur did more than turn a few heads with his performance, and two weeks later he received the coveted offer from Clemson.
“My first reaction was excitement,” Betancur said. told All Clemson. “Before camp they didn’t know much about me so after I impressed them at camp they just needed to make sure I was a good fit for them and I thought they would eventually propose.”
Betancur is already approaching 30 offers, with schools like Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Florida State and Florida already in pursuit of the talented Midwest tight end. The Seminoles, Gators and Buckeyes all offered this month.
While he came away impressed with what the Tigers have to offer, Betancur hopes to return later this season for another visit to familiarize himself even more with the program.
“The area and the facilities are amazing, the scenery is also hard to find,” he said. “I will come either for a game or in the winter.”
For now, however, Betancur knows some of the traits he looks for in a school, and from what he can tell so far, Clemson ticks those boxes.
“The most important things are a winning program, family atmosphere and relationships, and development to help me get into the NFL,” Betancur said. “And I think Clemson is adapting very well to that.”
The 2022 Tigers will be looking to win a fourth national title this season and are currently on FanDuel Sportsbook’s list to win it all in 2022 at No. 4.
