Diocese of Pittsburgh will continue to require masks inside all Catholic school buildings – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Following the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling on Friday to quash the Department of Health’s school mask mandate, the Diocese of Pittsburgh made a decision to continue requiring masks in all buildings Catholic schools.

Director Michelle Peduto sent a letter to families on Saturday announcing the decision.

“As Catholic communities, we are called to protect and improve the life and dignity of each person while living our evangelical call to love one another, to be concerned for the common good and to protect the most vulnerable. ‘between us,’ the letter read. “Therefore, we will maintain our requirement that adults and children wear masks inside all Catholic school buildings in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. “

The Diocese will review its current COVID-19 mitigation strategies in January, which will provide a two-week buffer after the Christmas holidays, examining the community’s spread in each county and the CDC’s recommendations to determine next steps .

“Know that our intention is to keep our schools fully open and our students fully engaged in their faith,
academic, physical and social development, ”said Peduto.

Peduto added in his letter that the diocese was examining the “process and appropriate measures for the transition from the required mask to the optional mask.”
