Ida Conroy

Mrs Ida Conroy, of Greendale Avenue, Newchurch, died at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday June 14, aged 82. Initially working in the textile industry, Ida became a dedicated nurse, before retiring from Roselands Nursing Home.

Ida had deep faith in God and was a prayer intercessor. She was an avid gardener and traveled widely, enjoying ownership of property in Spain. Ida has strong political knowledge and a social conscience, frequently writing to government leaders when she felt there was injustice.

Originally from Bacup, Ida was one of 11 children. She went to church and supported Tearfund.

Mother of the late Simon-James, she leaves her husband John, her daughters Pauline, Allison and Lisa, her grandchildren Lee, Michelle, Emily and Casey and her great-grandchildren Josie, Lauren, May, Sienna, Erin and Eden . The funeral took place on Wednesday June 22 with prayers at the Chapel of Rest, followed by a service and cremation at Burnley.

Michael Dawson

Michael Dawson

Mr Michael Christopher Dawson, of Grange Road, Rawtenstall, died at Blackburn Royal on Tuesday June 14, aged 68. Michael was a truck driver, later a painter and decorator, and had his own business, D&G Decorators.

He enjoyed billiards, American football, golf and motor sports. Michael has also served as Chairman of Rawtenstall Con Club and Chairman of the Rossendale Snooker League.

He leaves his wife Margaret Dawson, his son Kristian and his daughter-in-law Clare, as well as his grandchildren Billy and Stanley. Funeral services were held on Friday June 24 at St James the Less, followed by interment at Rawtenstall Cemetery, run by Father Lupton.

Ken Rothwell

The family is very sad to announce the death of Mr. Ken Rothwell on Tuesday June 14, at the age of 91, after a short illness at home, surrounded by his family. Ken was a very devoted husband to the late Edna.

He was a beloved and highly respected community figure in Helmshore and will be greatly missed. Ken has been a painter and decorator for over 60 years.

He is survived by his daughters Gill and Jo and their families. Ken was an active member of the Haslingden Conservative Club, the Royal British Legion and the Lodge of Amity, to name a few.

He enjoyed vacations abroad, particularly in Australia, and loved billiards and lawn bowling as a youth. A special thank you to the local district nursing team who were kind, compassionate and caring.

Funeral services were held on Friday June 24 at St Thomas’ Church in Helmshore, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium. There was a celebration of Ken’s life at The Coach, 163 Market Street, Edenfield afterwards.

Mrs Moira Preston, of Hurst Lane, Rawtenstall, died at her home on Thursday June 9, aged 77. Moira was a trader in Rawtenstall Market. She loved to walk and travel.

Wife of the late Neil, mum of Suzanne, Helen and Tim, grandmother of Charlie, Jake, Joe, Sam, Ethan and Leo and partner Christie. The funeral will take place on Thursday, June 30, with a service to be held at St James the Less Catholic Church at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Burnley Crematorium at 11.30 a.m.

Michael Henson

Mr Michael John Henson, of Springhill Avenue, Stacksteads, sadly passed away on Friday June 17 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 71. He is survived by his wife Lesley, his daughter Liz, his son-in-law Dave, his granddaughter Darcy and his sister-in-law. Elaine law.

Mike retired in 2015 from Ernest Platt Limited where he worked as a sales engineer. He played Sunday school cricket as a youngster and was the first team goalscorer for Bacup Cricket Club from 2004 to 2013 which he was very proud of.

He used to golf and fish for many years. Since retiring he has taken up bowling and played for the Rose ‘n’ Bowl indoors and outdoors until last year when poor health prevented him from doing so. Mike was a former member of the Bacup Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

The funeral will take place on Thursday June 30 at Trinity Baptist Church in Bacup at 1.15pm, followed by a burial at Burnley Crematorium at 2.30pm, led by the Reverend Dave Bartram. The family only flourishes with donations if desired, to Cancer Research UK (Bacup Committee) and the British Heart Foundation.
