New Delhi: After announcing the candidate for the position of Chief Minister of Punjab from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday, the national party official, Arvind Kejriwal, will today announce his CM face for Goa. Delhi CM Kejriwal reached Goa on Tuesday evening and will hold a press conference today at 11am and make the announcement.
Although the choice of the CM of the AAP is not yet clear, the party had decided some time ago that the CM for the upcoming Goa assembly elections in 2022 would be drawn from the Bhandari community. The information was made public by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia of Delhi. He also announced that the CM MP for Goa would come from the Catholic community. Apart from this, if AAP forms a government in Goa, the cabinet would have members from all communities.
The most talked about name to face the CM of AAP for Goa is Amit Polkar who comes from the Bhandari community. The community forms 35% of the population of Goa, which allows the AAP to consider it as its vote bank and give tickets to someone from the community. This makes Amit Polkar a better choice for AAP.
Who is Amit Polkar?
Polkar is the same person who started a hunger strike against the illegal bungalow being built at Old Goa Heritage premises. After his strike, the state administration took action against the disputed structure.
Arvind Kejriwal had only met Polkar during this strike, which later led to speculation that Polkar would be CM’s face for AAP.
While Kejriwal hadn’t confirmed Polkar’s name for CM, he hadn’t denied the possibilities either. Polkar has gone from lawyer to politician and is running in Santa Cruz riding. He had also accompanied Kejriwal in his last door-to-door campaign in Goa.
