Impressive start for St Henry’s College – Kitovu, Bishop Comboni

The 60e The edition of the LaMennais Tournament has officially started at St Charles Lwanga School, Kasasa in the city of Masaka.

This year’s edition rhymes along the thematic line; “Discovering, developing and promoting talents at the service of life”.

Hosts St Charles Lwanga – Kasasa, St Henry’s College Kitovu, Uganda Martyr’s High School – Lubaga and Bishop Comboni College recorded victories.

St Henry’s College Kitovu recorded the biggest win, 6-2 against Ibanda Secondary School.

Bishop Comboni College humiliated Zaake Lamennais 4-0.

Uganda Martyr’s High School Lubaga beat St Edward’s Bukuumi and hosts St Charles Lwanga Kasasa also recorded a 2-0 win over Caltec Academy, Makerere.

In the only contested women’s football match, St Charles Lwanga, Kasasa beat Zaake Lamennais 5-3.

Second game day:

On Monday August 15, 2022, there will be several matches.

It’s a derby duel as hosts St Charles Lwanga Kasasa take on another Masaka entity, St Henry’s College Kitovu.

Caltec Academy Makerere will face Bishop Comboni College, out injured St Edward’s Bukuumi and Zaake will also be lockhorns.

Ibanda Secondary School will face Uganda Martyrs Secondary School, Lubaga in the other game before St Charles Lwanga, Kasasa will play Zaake.

Meanwhile, Bishop Comboni will play his third game against St Edward’s Bukuumi.

After a two-year lull due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 LaMennais tournament returns with a 60th edition.

It was officially launched on Wednesday July 27, 2022 in Kasasa with partners SWICO, Kisubi, Stanbic Bank, JESA, Plascon, CBS Radio, PAX, Centenary Bank and Kalanzi Sports Center among others reaffirming their allegiance in bold.

Sixty years ago, the Catholic community in Uganda launched a sports tournament in schools in recognition of the work of French priest Fr. Jean-Marie de la Mennais.

Prof. La Mennais, alongside Fr. Gabriel Deshayes, founded the Institute of the Brothers of Christian Instruction in the Brittany region on 6e June 1819.

The tournament which has football (both boys and girls) has grown by leaps and bounds as it has over the years provided a great platform to showcase and nurture raw talent.

The official opening ceremony was graced by a live band leading the procession.


Hosts St Charles Lwanga Kasasa will be joined by Uganda Martyrs High School – Rubaga, Nebbi Town School, Caltec Academy Makerere, St Henry’s College – Kitovu, La Mennias Secondary school – Kyotera, St Mary’s College – Kisubi, Bishop Comboni College, St Edwards School secondary school in Bukuumi and Ibanda.
