Joan Beringer Crowley, a longtime resident of Potomac and Rockville MD, passed away peacefully at her home in the presence of her children on Friday, December 31. She was predeceased by her late husband Jerome F. Crowley Jr. on October 26, 1996 and her son Christopher W. Crowley on December 2, 2018.

Born February 17, 1933 in Joliet, Ill. To the late William Beringer and Margarita (Rita) McGovern Beringer, Joan has spent most of her life in the DC area, graduating from the Blessed Sacrament and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. At the age of 16, Joan began her retail career at Garfinckel’s in Washington DC, becoming the youngest buyer in the company’s history at the age of 21. Her work has taken her to various fashion centers such as New York as well as trips to Europe to find the next fashion trend. Joan met the love of her life, Jerry Crowley, and got married in January 1958 and left to raise her family.

Throughout her life, Joan continued to balance raising her family and working in retail to support her husband’s efforts to start his own business. She spent many years working at Talbot, developing friendships that have lasted to this day. His sacrifices helped allow Jerry’s business, The Crowley Company, to survive difficult times and ultimately thrive and succeed to this day. His contributions cannot be overstated and his selflessness was one of his many traits.

Joan was the proudest of her children: Kevin Crowley (Marie); the late Christopher Crowley (Kathy); Patrick Crowley (Molly); and Joan Rowe (Kevin). She cherished her 11 grandchildren Kelly, Christopher, Brendan, Colleen, Claire, Kevin, Katie, Charlie, Libby, Bridget and her best friend, Patrick. Joan called each of her children every night, wanting updates on all of her grandchildren. She has lived her life to make them happy, including, true to her habit, regular trips to Nordstrom Rack.

Funeral and visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac MD on Saturday January 8, 2022. Visitations will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a Christian funeral mass starting at 11:00 am. : 00.
