Mary Patricia (Connolly) Pierce, 97, of Erie, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, with her children by her side at the Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Center in Erie.
She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on August 24, 1925, the daughter of the late Emma C. and the late Daniel P. Connolly.
Mary graduated from the Academy High School class of 1942. After high school, Mary studied nursing and completed her training at North Warren State Hospital. She continued her career as a labor and delivery nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania until she met the love of her life, Victor Michael Pierce. Mary and Victor were united in a holy marriage on May 28, 1949 and spent 45 wonderful years raising a family together.
Mary was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Warren, Pennsylvania. She taught religion classes, was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, and held many parish offices. She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, and spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary loved music and carried on the tradition of playing the family piano she had learned from her mother. Mary loved nature and rode her swing many times, reading the paper and seeking out all the good sales the retail business had to offer.
She is survived by six children: Terrence L. Pierce (wife, Diane) of Harborcreek, Pennsylvania, Richard C. Pierce of Erie, Pennsylvania, Douglas M. Pierce (wife, Ginger) of Wattsburgh, PA, Mary Victoria (Pierce ) Gligora (husband Robert) of North Ridgeville, Ohio, James Patrick Pierce (JPP) of Warren, Pennsylvania, and Jennifer Lynn (Pierce) Brink (husband, David) of Pensacola, Florida, 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 other great-grandchildren expected in 2023.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Victor Michael Pierce; and his son, Jeffrey Michael Pierce (wife Kathy) of Erie, Pennsylvania.
Friends can call Sunday at Kloecker-Bailey Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4396 Iroquois Avenue Erie, PA 16511 from 2-6 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Chapel, 607 E. 26th Street Erie, PA 16504. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
