A Catholic funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Mrs. Mascle Lantier Short Belaire, born January 17, 1937 (85 years old). Resident of Lafayette, the former Mascle Lantier died on Friday January 21, 2022 at her residence in Lafayette surrounded by her family. The family requests that visitation be observed at Downtown Martin & Castille on Monday, January 24, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited by Voorhies Short on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Maison Funéraire Martin & Castille. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Reverend Brian Taylor, pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral. Survivors include her beloved husband, Stephen J. Belaire; one daughter, Kim Flatt (Pat); four sons, Karlen Short (Sandy), Kraig Short (Loretta), Kristopher Short and Klint Short; four stepchildren; one sister, Carita Broussard; seven grandchildren, Brannon Short (Bianca), Chasity Castille (Jason), Drew Huval (Ella), Ory Huval (Barrie), Seth Short (Shelby), Hunter Short and Haven Short; 6 step-grandchildren, Coby Broussard, Irving Broussard, LaCori Broussard, LaSha Sams, LaShonna Broussard and Arthur Broussard; 9 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Francis P. Short; her father, Raoul Lantier; his mother, Elida Guidry Lantier; two brothers, Curtis and Stafford Lantier; two great-granddaughters; a step-grandson; and a step-great-grandchild. She was a faithful member of the Sainte-Geneviève Catholic community and was always ready to pray the Rosary for sick members, family and friends. She was also a member of LRTA and a supporter of St. Jude since 1983. A Lafayette Senior High Class graduate of 1955, Mascle was employed at First National Bank for 7 years, owned a business for 10 years and worked at SJ Montgomery as a special education teacher’s aide for 10 years. She and her husband loved going dancing, going to the casino and riding 4 wheels. They have also taken many vacations in their convertible. She enjoyed cooking suppers in her backyard for her family and friends and always lived her life to the fullest. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Honor bearers will be supported by Brannon Short, Drew Huval, Ory Huval, Seth Short, Hunter Short, Gauge Short, Brandon Short, Brendon Short, Lincoln Huval and Allen Short.
