Georgia’s two top-ranked teams met Friday in one of the biggest high school football games of the season and No. 8 Buford improved to 7-0 with a 39-27 victory over the No. 18 Mill Creek (Hoschton). Five-star Wolves running back Judge Haynes had a monster night going over 200 yards and scoring twice, becoming the sixth player in Georgia State history to eclipse 7,000 yards on the ground after his great performance.

Wolves control their own destiny to win the Region 8 title and added another quality win giving the Hawks their first loss of the season.

11 Westlake (Austin, Texas) won his 47th consecutive game with an impressive 29-10 road win at Dripping Springs (Texas). The Chaparrals defense forced five turnovers and it was Westlake’s 46th win by more than one score during his 47-game winning streak.

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) moved up to No. 1 on this week’s MaxPreps Top 25 after beating then No. 1. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 17-7 last week. The Monarchs will face the third-best team in the Trinity League at the Santa Ana Bowl on Friday. Orange Lutheran (Orange) is 6-1 with the only loss to a very good team in Edison (Huntington Beach) in early September.

Another big game features Archbishop No. 19 Moeller (Cincinnati) hosting St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) on Saturday. The Fighting Crusaders are off to their best start since 2013 and have been Ohio’s best team this season.
