myracinecounty – CARL E. VOS

Carl E. Vos, 83, of the City of Wheatland, died Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Geneva Lake Manor.

Carl was born in Burlington on January 30, 1938 to Hugo and Grace (née Kerkman) Vos. He was a lifelong resident of the Burlington area.

Carl graduated from St. Mary’s High School. After high school, he attended diesel mechanic school in Moline, Illinois. On May 30, 1964, he was married to Mary Ann Holtyn at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee. After their marriage, they resided in Burlington where Carl worked on the family farm and raised his family. He carried on the family tradition and was the fifth generation on the Vos family farm.

Carl was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a member of the Studebaker Club, and a member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting around the farm and watching car races. He loved fixing tractors and was passionate about a clean running engine. He looked forward to winter so he could work on his tractors. He loved to dance, especially polkas, and it was at the Muskego Beach Dance Club that he met Mary Ann. Carl served his country in the US Army.

Carl is survived by his children, Judith (Pat) Pieters, Linda (Brian) Tenhagen, Carol Vos and Susan (Ron) Schneider; grandchildren Veronica and Michael Tenhagen; step-grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Nolan, Robert (Laura) Pieters and Sarah (RA) Kordus; and nine step-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Doris Daniels; brothers-in-law Gloria Siepel, James Holtyn, Rose A. Vos and Rita Vos; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, wife and siblings, Don Vos, Bob (Sue) Vos, Art Vos, Leon (Rita) Vos, Germaine (Dick) Eisenbart and Rose Mary (Norm) Schultz.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggested a memorial be made at the Wheatland Fire Department or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Carl’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Touching Hearts Home Care, Aging and Disability Resources of Racine County, doctors, nurses and staff at St. Luke’s, Milwaukee, Aurora Burlington and staff at Geneva Lake Manor Hospice for all their care and compassion.

A Christian Burial Mass will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit the family on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home.

A celebration of Carl’s life will be held this summer at the Vos family farm, date and time to be determined.
