On Friday, November 26, 2021, John William “Jack” Keefer, beloved father, grandfather and older brother, passed away at the age of 84.
Jack was born January 12, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio, to John and Alice (Eastman) Keefer.
He attended Saint Mary Magdalen School until eighth grade when the family moved to Delaware, Ohio in 1951. He then attended Aquinas High School where he graduated in 1954.
After graduating from high school, he attended the General Motor Institute in Flint, Michigan. This two-year program prepared him to join the Keefer Chevrolet and Cadillac family business.
Jack married Mary Ann Parker on November 24, 1956 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church and raised three daughters, Susanne Bridget, Karen Anne, Mary Margaret and a son John Robert.
Jack worked in the family business until its sale in June 1975, where he was then the first director of the Delaware County Child Support Enforcement Agency. Then he worked for the State of Ohio.
Jack was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church serving the congregation and community in many capacities. He had the honor of serving as both Junior Director and Senior Director, was instrumental in the development and direction of two successful fundraisers. One of them allowed the construction of the Memorial Garden / Collibrium Cemetery. He has been a life member of the Andrews House Board of Directors and served on the Outreach Committee. In addition, he created a children’s library currently located at the church, which is named after his love and our mother, Mary Ann Keefer, who died too early in 2002.
Jack has spent hours making sure the community benefits from community outreach programs.
Jack was a man of few words, but they were still meaningful. A bad sense of humor, often peppered with just the right amount of impropriety, was his calling card. He was funny and noisy at times. Traits he passed on to his children. He loved all of our family time at Sunset Beach in North Carolina, but especially loved the time at the table where his children and grandchildren entertained and told funny stories that could make you laugh so hard you would cry. Jack was immensely proud of all of his grandchildren. If you give them an extra 5 minutes of your time, you will hear all about their many accomplishments.
Jack is survived by his children and their families. Susanne Keefer (Rowland Smith) and son Scott Schemine (with fiancé Erin Erjavec), son John Keefer, Karen (Keefer) and Chris Frye and son Sam, Mary Margaret (Keefer) and Bill Mosca with their children Matthew and Anne , siblings Mike and Sonny Keefer, Jim Keefer, Jill and John Parker, a host of loving nieces and nephews, longtime friends, and finally Bogey and Tally.
The family will receive guests for one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday May 21, 2022 (time to be announced at a later date) at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Delaware Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donating to The Andrews House, 39 West Winter Street, Delaware, Ohio 43015 or the Memorial Garden Fund at St. Peter’s Church. 45 West Winter St. Delaware, Ohio 43015.
