Obituary of Kathleen McLeod (1945 – 2021) – Golden Valley, MN

McLeod, Kathleen Rose, 76, of Golden Valley, passed away peacefully surrounded by Jim, Heather, Doug and Molly on November 25, 2021 following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Jim; children, Heather McLeod, Doug (Alyssa) McLeod, Molly (Ben) Carpenter; grandchildren, Margaret, Joseph, Sean, Emily, James, Chloe, William, Tess and Jacob. Preceded in death by parents, Edward and Stella Marsh. Kathy grew up in a working-class suburb of Akron, Ohio. She worked hard to complete her education and began her career at Akron Children’s Hospital as a pediatric emergency nurse. During this time, she met her husband, Jim, who was a pediatric resident. Kathy and Jim married on August 2, 1969 and started a family soon after. Kathy has worn many hats throughout her life. She was a faithful Catholic and a committed volunteer at Benilde-St. Margaret’s, where she founded and operated the school’s spirits clothing store. Later, Kathy opened a retail store, The Baby Collection, in Minneapolis. She had impeccable taste and attention to detail. While these traits served him well, his greatest strength was developing and nurturing relationships with his clients. And those fortunate enough to know Kathy as an entrepreneur have experienced her gifts of service and connection. Kathy cherished the holidays, birthdays and any opportunity to spend time with her family, who now have nine grandchildren. She was very happy to find the perfect gift and make the people in her life feel loved and celebrated. Kathy was her grandchildren’s biggest fan at countless games, concerts, and shows, and she had a way to make every grandchild feel like her favorite. Kathy loved pontoon rides, fishing, family dogs, the color blue, art, great food, Gopher basketball, and deep conversations. She was a dear friend to many and cherished the annual pheasant weekends, a tradition that spanned decades. For the past few years, Kathy and Jim have spent their winters in Arizona, where she loved making new friendships and receiving visits from her children and grandchildren. Although Kathy will be dearly missed, she will live through the traditions she instilled and the relationships she cherished.
