Part-time JRS Digital Communications Officer vacant

A dynamic and varied part-time role (22.5 hours, would consider 30 hours) in charge of digital content and communications for JRS UK.

JRS UK is seeking to recruit a Digital Communications Officer to support our fundraising and advocacy work, helping to realize our vision of a world where people forced to flee their homes are greeted with love; and to help support our communications at a critical time when the Nationality and Borders Bill seeks to overhaul the UK asylum system.

This is a dynamic and varied role, developing written and visual content that: raises awareness of the situation of asylum seekers and migrants in detention in the UK; the work JRS is doing in response; and the difference that supporters’ donations make in the lives of individuals. The position would be ideal for someone who enjoys creativity, has excellent written communication skills and is passionate about supporting refugees and asylum seekers.

You will be a key member of a small communications and fundraising team, with particular emphasis on shaping our social media channels and developing our website. We attach great importance to encouraging refugee participation and shaping our message, and you will play a key role in making this happen.

JRS UK’s external communications seek to be clear and balanced, and in line with our values as an organization, protecting and enhancing the dignity of refugees at all times. We seek to involve existing and new supporters of JRS, especially within the Catholic community, as well as to influence public debate and opinion.

The role involves working alongside refugees and volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. A high level of empathy and sensitivity is therefore essential, as well as an enthusiasm for working within a small, dedicated team. Much of our communications material engages directly with the religious basis of our mission, so enthusiasm and an ability to develop our resources in this area is essential for this role.

We welcome and encourage applications from individuals with experience in UK security research.
