COAL TOWNSHIP – Patricia A. Bendas, 78, of Coal Township, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born in Coal Township, November 30, 1943, the daughter of the late Harry and Catherine (Schroyer) Herb.
In 1959, she met the love of her life, Peter W. Bendas Jr. Two years later, she happily married him on October 28, 1961, at Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church, Shamokin. Reverend Constantine Berdar presided over the ceremony. Last year, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Her husband predeceased her on April 2, 2021.
She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration, in Shamokin.
Patricia was such a strong woman that it’s hard to believe she’s gone. In her absence, all we can do is remember the amazing person she will always be. She was a devoted wife who loved Pap until the day she died. Even in her own failing health, she made sure to take care of her husband. She would cook him dinner, even if it was just a cup of noodles, and bring it to him on her walker.
Pap wasn’t the only one she cooked for. After raising four children and many grandchildren, she always had something good at home, and she made sure to give it to you as soon as you arrived. She was an excellent cook! Potpie, pigeons, meat pie, cakes, cookies, pie – she always had something, and she always made enough to share because you never knew who would come by.
Mam knew how to welcome you and put you at ease. With such a large family, someone always came to visit. Even the visiting nurses liked to stay and chat with her. She never forgot what you told her and loved sharing your joy. Visiting Mam and Pap at Christmas and birthdays was a tradition, even if you had seen them a few days before.
Less than a year after losing Pap, she is with him again, but many here on Earth are already feeling her loss. We love you so much mom!
Patricia is survived by her loving family, which includes four children, Peter Bendas and his wife, Karen, of Coal Township, Patrick Bendas and his wife, Elizabeth, of Kulpmont, Patricia Jones, of Coal Township, and Donna Sienkiewicz and her husband , Henry, of the township of Coal; 11 grandchildren, Evan Bendas, Jennifer Mitchell, Danielle Bendas, Sophie Mae Bendas, Patrick Bendas Jr., Zachary Jones, Jessica Jones, Céline Jones, Scott Sienkiewicz, Kaitlyn Sienkiewicz and Isibelle Sienkiewicz; nine great-grandchildren, Parker, Dylan, Samuel, Khloe, Rosalie, Sonny, Seger, June and Zayne, with another great-grandson due in June; five sisters, Barbara Kahler of Lancaster, Ruth Snyder of Coal Township, Connie Paige of Middleburg, Jeannie Gurewicz of Shamokin, and Sally Sherman of Coal Township; four brothers, Harry Herb of Carlisle, George Herb of Trevorton, Ron Herb of Shamokin, and Ed Herb of Coal Township; and several nieces and nephews.
