Richard “Dick” Molumby, 87, of Ogden died January 23, 2022. He was born January 23, 1935 to Raymond and Consuela (Felker) Molumby in Madison, South Dakota. He graduated from Notre Dame Secondary School in 1953. Dick joined the Air Force at age 18 and toured South Africa in intelligence and communications. After his Air Force service, he returned to the United States and met Margaret “Margie” Molumby his future wife, a nursing student at St. John’s McNamara. Dick always liked to say he got married “upstairs.” Margie and Dick were married on April 30, 1960, and settled in Vermillion, South Dakota, where he attended college at the University of South Dakota.
For Dick’s next career opportunity, he accepted a position with the Boeing Aerospace Corporation working on the intercontinental ballistic missile program leveraging his expertise as a telegrapher, one of America’s first “high tech” professions. the modern era. He excelled as the Boeing Company’s program and quality control manager implementing ICBM weapon systems as part of the US nuclear triad and deterrence.
Dick also had a very successful career as a residential realtor, selling homes to friends, colleagues and family for over 50 years. He has developed and built over 65 new residential homes, including patio homes in South Ogden and Glen Cove in Riverdale.
Dick volunteered many hours on behalf of St. Joseph’s Catholic Schools, serving as chairman of the board and leading the finance committee. He and Margie were also St. Joseph Boosters, supporting more than 40 years of fundraising events totaling over $1 million for school athletics and meeting lifelong friends. They sent all six children to St. Joseph’s Catholic Schools in Ogden.
Dick achieved a lot, but he still had time to enjoy his Irish heritage, such as the famous annual Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations.
It’s like Dick leaving this world on his birthday, always making an entrance! We celebrated his love of cars by hosting a parade of sporty and unique cars with his corvette in the lead, back to the celebration of life.
A funeral mass was celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church on January 28, 2022.
