SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) — Ronn Johnson was remembered Monday as a deeply compassionate man whose work as executive director of Springfield’s Martin Luther King Junior Family Services helped thousands.
The passing of Ronn Johnson on Saturday night generated widespread grief over the loss of a man who had helped so many over his years. The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, William Byrne, briefly knew Ronn Johnson, but he knew he was in the company of someone special.
“I firmly believe that the spirit of Dr. King lived on loud and clear through the genius, generosity and sheer force of Ronn Johnson’s work,” Bishop Byrne said. “He was a man than what you see, he was the man he is and was, he was a happy, loving kind.”
Among her many accomplishments in helping people, the Brianna Fund named in her daughter’s honor continues to provide support to young people with disabilities in the Pioneer Valley.
“It feels like it’s rewarding to help someone out and the fact that we’ve had such a large community of people who have been supporting this for so many years, we’re really grateful for that,” Johnson said in a previous interview.
As Springfield State Rep. Bud Williams noted when Ronn Johnson passed away, he was a man who touched many lives.
