SHREWSBURY, MA — St. John’s High School football will face a new rival near Thanksgiving after the 95-year-old traditional game ended against St. Peter-Marian, which merged with St. Paul Diocesan Junior-Senior High School in Worcester l ‘last year . St. John’s faced Everett High School for the 2021 Thanksgiving game, but is returning to the Catholic Conference this year.

A new Thanksgiving Day tradition is set to begin in November as the Saint John’s Pioneers and Malden Catholic Lancers square off on the gridiron as part of their Catholic Conference regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022. In a draw draw on Thursday June 23 On February 2, it was determined that this year’s match will be held at Malden Catholic’s Donovan Ground at Brother Gilbert Stadium in Malden, with future matches alternating with Pioneer Ground at Saint John’s in Shrewsbury.
“We are thrilled to end our football season with a new tradition that will enhance the experience for both teams and provide immense enjoyment to our entire community,” said John K. Thornburg, president of Malden Catholic. “The Catholic Conference is considered one of the most accomplished athletic conferences in terms of winning reputation and we look forward to an exciting game.”
