South Alabama’s Jalen Tolbert drafted by Dallas Cowboys in third round

Former South Alabama wide receiver Jalen Tolbert was selected by the Dallas Cowboys on Friday, with the No. 88 pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Tolbert (6-foot-1, 194 pounds) was the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year when he caught a school-record 82 passes for 1,474 yards and eight touchdowns. The Mobile native and former McGill-Toolen Catholic School standout is the Jaguars career leader in receptions (178), receiving yards (3,140) and touchdowns (22).

Tolbert is the third South Alabama player drafted by an NFL team since the program’s inception in 2010. He follows tight end Gerald Everett in 2016 (second round, Los Angeles Rams) and fellow wide receiver Kawaan Baker in 2021 (seventh round, New Orleans Saints).

by Tolbert Draft Profile reads in part:

Silky smooth athlete who has turned into a monster over the past two seasons. Tolbert is a high-character prospect with elements of skill that drip from NFL potential. He gave work to everyone he faced, including SEC coverage corners in Tennessee. His background in three sports provides a unique perspective to draw from his position, and his road running gives him an edge in side battles early on. His traits, talent, and production should push him to the top of the table, and boosting the competitive spirit could turn him into a top-flight WR2.
