MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – There was not a dry eye in the gymnasium at St. Francis Central Catholic School as the community gathered for the first annual Adrianna Chico Evans Award.
Adrianna was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, teacher and friend who went to her heavenly home in October 2021.
After Adrianna’s father passed away, Robert Chico and St. Francis principal Arthur Moore worked together to create the ACE Fund Foundation in his honor.
This award was given to a teacher who goes above and beyond in the classroom, just like Adrianna did.
“Adrianna would be embarrassed by all of this activity tonight, but as a father, I’m very proud of what she’s accomplished in such a short time,” Chico said.
He added that he was touched to hear all of the stories shared by Adrianna’s former students and their parents, as he knew she loved them as much as they loved her.
“I would ask him from time to time. Can’t get enough of it? She said I love it, dad. I love it,” Chico shared.
The ACE Family Fund Board of Directors read the 2022 nominations and selected art teacher Nora Sheets as the first recipient of the ACE Award.
Sheets received $2,500 and will have his name on a plaque that will be updated to feature each year’s winner.
Chico added that this award is not just about her daughter, but about the profession she loves so much.
“We think it’s very important that teachers be recognized for their excellence in the classroom. That’s exactly what ACE does,” he explained.
