The Stella Maris Academy organizes an open day for the new high school

DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) – The only Catholic high school in Twin Ports opened to the public for the first time on January 7, 2022.

The Stella Maris Academy hosted an open day for the public to get a glimpse of the new school. Parents and grandparents said they were amazed by the renovations and delighted their children were attending in the fall.

Mary Kay Berarducci attended Holy Rosary School as a child. She said her love and appreciation for the school continues to this day.

“School itself has been a big part of our life. It encompasses everything. All our activities, church, religious education.

Stella Maris Academy President Andrew Hilliker said with this new addition their Catholic education can extend to high school level. This would not have been possible without the support of the community.

“Thanks to the generosity of some very exceptional shareholders and donors, we were able to purchase this property.

School officials said the property was purchased for $ 4 million.

The school will initially be open to freshmen and sophomores with plans to expand to upper class students in the coming years. They are only in phase 1 of 4 with regard to renovations and will only be able to accommodate about sixty students.

“If there is a desire and need for additional registrations, we have spaces that we can use as classrooms while we work on phase two of the renovations. “

In the years to come, Berarducci hopes that her grandchildren will continue their education in school, just as she did.

“I would like my grandchildren to go to school here. It’s such an important part of our lives and I want my kids to have it and I want my grandchildren to have it.
