WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SUFFERS FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS OF THE SEASON

Orangeburg, NY (09/17/22) The Dominican University of New York women’s volleyball team suffered their first conference loss of the season to the Bears of Bloomfield College.

With the loss, the Chargers fall to 5-6 (3-1 CACC). The Bears improved to 4-4 (3-0 CACC) after the win.

Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) finished with a high elimination game with 12. Carr also added 12 digs and 14 points. Setter Alessandra Pantoja (Lewisville, Texas) finished with a game leading 29 assists and added three service aces. Aliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) contributed six kills and 9.5 points along with two solo blocks and three assists.

Savanna Todi (Minneapolis, Minnesota) recorded five kills and 7.5 points while Abigail Thompson (Aledo, Texas) added eight digs.

For the Bears, Jaizahir Marrero led the way with 12 kills and 13.5 points. Lily Jackson recorded 19 assists while Amanda Arroyo added 12 assists. Karla Maldonado finished with 12 digs.

The Bears won a sweep over the Chargers, handing the Dominican their first conference loss. The Bears held the lead for most of the first set and the Chargers fought back but fell 25-21.

The Bears took a 2-0 lead after using a 5-1 run to help secure the second set 25-20. Bloomfield ended the victory with a 25-19 win in the third set to complete the sweep.

The Chargers will be looking to bounce back when they travel to Caldwell University on Wednesday, September 21 for a North Division conference game with the Cougars at 7:00 p.m.
